Encaustic, natural pigments, oil paints on beech ply board
This encaustic landscape, titled The Other View, holds a surprising connection to its environment. Created intuitively, the painting was hung on the wall beside a dining room window, only to reveal itself as an almost-subliminal reflection of the view outside. Freddie unknowingly captured the essence of the landscape visible through that window, blending memory and instinct into wax and pigment. The piece embodies the idea of imperfect memories and nature’s quiet influence, offering a serene parallel between the world inside and out. The Other View reminds us of the subtle ways our surroundings shape our creativity.
Multi layers bring out the depth of the sunlight forest. Deep carving through the 20 or so layers of wax make for an attention-getting portrait of a stately wood.
