Encaustic, natural pigments on birch ply board

2024

This encaustic piece celebrates a historic structure in Pittsburgh’s North Side Mexican War Streets, once owned by Freddie’s dear friend and colleague who passed away in the early 1990s. The artwork focuses on a terracotta tile from the home, reflecting the owner’s passion for architecture, restoration, and the preservation of historic properties. Layered with wax, this piece pays homage to the craftsmanship and detail that define these old homes, as well as the shared belief in safeguarding their legacy. Terracotta Tribute is not just a preservation of a tile but a preservation of memories, respect, and a love for history.
